Zechariah 14:18
“If the family of Egypt doesn’t go up, and doesn’t come, neither will it rain on them. This will be the plague with which Yahweh will strike the nations that don’t go up to keep the feast of tents.”
What does Zechariah 14:18 mean?
In Zechariah's vision of the future, he's describing a time when all nations will be called to worship together in Jerusalem during the Feast of Tents, a major Jewish celebration. Those who refuse to participate face real consequences, including drought, which would have been devastating in an ancient agricultural society. The prophet uses Egypt as his example, perhaps because Egypt was historically significant to Israel's story and represented pride or resistance to God's purposes. The underlying message is that blessing and life flow from alignment with God's design, while separation from Him brings real hardship, not as arbitrary punishment but as the natural outcome of turning away from what sustains us.
