What does Ruth 2:1 mean?

This verse quietly introduces one of the Bible's most important characters right when we need him most. Naomi has just returned to Bethlehem as a widow with almost nothing, and suddenly we learn that her late husband's family has a connection to a man with both resources and standing in the community. The phrase "mighty man of wealth" describes someone who isn't just financially secure but respected, someone whose influence matters. What might seem like a simple introduction is actually hope arriving on the scene, though Naomi doesn't yet know it. This is how God often works in our lives: he places people and circumstances around us for reasons we only understand later.
