“What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
What does Romans 8:31 mean?
Paul is asking a rhetorical question that cuts to the heart of Christian confidence. After spending several chapters unpacking God's love, adoption, and promise of glory for those who follow Jesus, he pauses to let it sink in: if the creator and sustainer of everything has chosen to be on your side, what power in heaven or earth could ultimately oppose you? This doesn't mean life becomes trouble-free or that you'll never face real enemies or suffering. What it means is that nothing can separate you from God's commitment to you, and nothing can prevent his ultimate purposes for your life. There's a deep freedom in that, especially for people wrestling with fear, shame, or the weight of their circumstances. You're not fighting alone, and you're not fighting an unwinnable battle.
