Romans 8:17
“and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.”
What does Romans 8:17 mean?
Paul is telling us that when we become God's children through faith, we inherit everything that belongs to God, and we share in that inheritance alongside Christ himself. This is an extraordinary promise, but it comes with a condition: we will face suffering in this world, just as Christ did. The beautiful part is that our struggles now are never wasted or meaningless, because they connect us to Christ's own experience and ultimately lead to sharing in his glory and transformation. Paul isn't saying suffering earns us anything, but rather that following Jesus honestly means walking a path that includes hardship, and God promises to walk it with us and bring us through to something far greater.
