Romans 7:2
“For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband.”
What does Romans 7:2 mean?
Paul uses marriage as an everyday example to explain how God's law works in our lives. Just as a woman is legally bound to her husband during his lifetime but is freed from that obligation when he dies, we're bound to the old way of living under the law until something changes our fundamental situation. He's building toward the idea that through Christ's death and resurrection, we've been released from trying to earn God's favor through our own effort, much like a widow is released from marital obligation. The point isn't really about marriage laws themselves, but about understanding spiritual freedom and what it means to be bound to something versus set free from it.
