Romans 4:9
“Is this blessing then pronounced on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.”
What does Romans 4:9 mean?
Paul is asking a question that mattered deeply to early Christians: does God's favor belong only to Jewish people (who were circumcised) or to everyone who believes? He answers by pointing back to Abraham, who was counted as righteous by God because of his faith, not because of any religious ritual or rule-following. This shifts the entire conversation away from "who has the right credentials?" and toward "who trusts God?" It's Paul's way of saying that belonging to God's family has always been about what's in your heart, not the external markers that might make you feel superior or excluded.
