Romans 3:4
“May it never be! Yes, let God be found true, but every man a liar. As it is written, “That you might be justified in your words, and might prevail when you come into judgment.””
What does Romans 3:4 mean?
Paul is responding to a troubling question: if our unfaithfulness shows God's faithfulness more clearly, does that make sin actually useful? He's emphatic in rejecting this idea. God's truthfulness and reliability aren't dependent on human failure, and we can't twist our wrongdoing into something noble. What matters is that God's character stands unshaken no matter what humans do or claim. When we finally stand before God, it will be clear that He spoke truth all along, while our excuses and self-justifications were hollow. This doesn't leave us hopeless, though. It means we can trust that God is the one solid, unchanging reality we can build our lives on, even when everything else feels uncertain.
