Romans 3:31
“Do we then nullify the law through faith? May it never be! No, we establish the law.”
What does Romans 3:31 mean?
Paul is addressing a real confusion that came up in early churches: if we're saved by faith in Jesus rather than by perfectly keeping every rule in the law, doesn't that mean the law no longer matters? His answer is a firm no. Faith doesn't dismiss or devalue God's law, but rather confirms it. When we trust Jesus, we're actually honoring what the law pointed to all along: our need for God's grace and our call to love Him and others. The law revealed our weakness and our sin, and faith in Christ proves the law was right about that reality. So rather than faith destroying the law, it establishes it by finally addressing what the law could never accomplish on its own.
