Romans 2:22
“You who say a man shouldn’t commit adultery. Do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?”
What does Romans 2:22 mean?
Paul is holding up a mirror to people who confidently judge others while doing similar wrong things themselves. He's pointing out the contradiction between what we publicly condemn and what we privately practice, whether that's sexual unfaithfulness, stealing from sacred spaces, or any other sin we claim to oppose. This hits especially hard because it reveals something true about human nature: we're often most critical about the very things we struggle with. When we're quick to point out someone else's failures while ignoring our own, we're not just being hypocritical, we're also missing the chance to grow. Paul's real concern here is that real change comes from honest self-examination, not from performing moral superiority.
