Romans 15:24
“whenever I travel to Spain, I will come to you. For I hope to see you on my journey, and to be helped on my way there by you, if first I may enjoy your company for a while.”
What does Romans 15:24 mean?
Paul is expressing a genuine human desire: to visit the Roman church on his way to Spain, and to receive their encouragement and practical support for the journey ahead. He's not making demands or treating them as merely useful to him, but rather saying he wants to actually spend time with them, to know them as people, and to receive their help with gratitude. This captures something beautiful about Christian community that we sometimes miss. Paul, despite his apostolic authority and spiritual maturity, freely admits he needs others. He's asking to receive as well as to give.
