Romans 14:19
“So then, let us follow after things which make for peace, and things by which we may build one another up.”
What does Romans 14:19 mean?
Paul is calling us toward something beautifully practical: choosing what brings people together instead of what tears them apart. He's writing to a church wrestling with differences over food, holy days, and convictions, and he's saying the real measure of faith isn't being right, but whether our choices strengthen the people around us. When you face a disagreement with someone, this verse invites you to ask a different question than "Who's wrong?" Instead: "What choice here builds them up? What would actually help our relationship or community?" Sometimes that means letting go of proving your point, or being patient with someone else's journey. It's not about never having convictions, but about holding them in a way that makes room for others to grow too. This matters especially in hard seasons, when tensions run high and misunderstandings come easier. Peace and building people up aren't weakness or compromise, they're the actual work of faith.
