Romans 14:13
“Therefore let’s not judge one another any more, but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block in his brother’s way, or an occasion for falling.”
What does Romans 14:13 mean?
Paul is urging believers to stop condemning each other over personal choices (like what foods to eat or which days to honor, issues dividing the Roman church at that time). Instead of harsh judgment, he redirects that critical energy toward something more constructive: consider how your freedom might hurt someone else's faith. A "stumbling block" here means anything that could weaken another person's relationship with God or tempt them to act against their conscience. It's less about judging their choices and more about considering whether your own choices could damage their spiritual walk. This is a call to trade judgment for love, swapping an attitude of superiority for one of genuine care about your neighbor's wellbeing.
