What does Romans 11:34 mean?

Paul is reminding us that God's understanding and wisdom are so far beyond ours that we can never fully grasp how he thinks or presume to advise him. This isn't meant to discourage us from seeking wisdom or praying, but rather to free us from the burden of needing to figure everything out or feeling like we have to explain God's decisions to ourselves or others. When we're facing confusion, doubt, or pain, this verse can be strangely comforting: sometimes the honest answer is "I don't know why God allowed this," and that's okay. We're invited to trust even when we don't understand, rather than exhausting ourselves trying to make complete sense of his ways.
