“I saw, in the right hand of him who sat on the throne, a book written inside and outside, sealed shut with seven seals.”
What does Revelation 5:1 mean?
John is describing a vision where God holds a sealed scroll that contains God's plan for the future. The fact that it's written on both sides shows how full and complete this plan is, and the seven seals represent how thoroughly it's locked away from human understanding. In the ancient world, sealed documents were official and binding, so this image conveys that what's written here is absolutely authoritative and will definitely come to pass.
