What does Revelation 21:6 mean?

God is telling John that He encompasses everything, from start to finish, holding all of existence in His hands. When He speaks of giving freely to the thirsty, He's offering spiritual renewal and satisfaction to anyone who recognizes their deep need for Him, asking nothing in return. This promise comes near the end of Revelation when John is receiving visions of God's future restoration of all things. The image of water quenching thirst speaks to that inner emptiness many of us carry, the sense that something vital is missing. God invites us to come as we are, acknowledging our hunger, and receive what only He can provide: purpose, peace, and belonging that lasts forever.
