““I know your works and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. You hold firmly to my name, and didn’t deny my faith in the days of Antipas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.”
What does Revelation 2:13 mean?
This message to the church in Pergamum acknowledges that believers there faced real spiritual opposition, living in a city known for emperor worship and false religion. Even so, Jesus notices and affirms their faithfulness, particularly their refusal to renounce their faith even when it cost someone like Antipas his life. The reference to "Satan's throne" reflects the intensity of pressure they were under, not that God's power was absent, but that their choice to remain loyal despite danger was remarkable and seen. Jesus is saying: I know what you're enduring, I see your courage, and your faithfulness matters to me, even when the world around you demands you compromise.
