What does Revelation 18:5 mean?
When something reaches "to the sky," it means it's grown so massive that it's impossible to ignore. Babylon's sins in this passage aren't just numerous, they're stacked up so high that heaven itself takes notice. The image suggests that what seemed hidden or manageable has become undeniable, both in scope and consequence. The second part, about God remembering her iniquities, doesn't mean God had forgotten and suddenly recalled them. It means God is now acting on what He's always known, bringing accountability for wrongs that have accumulated over time. This is the moment when accumulated harm finally demands a response. For those in hard seasons, this can be both sobering and strangely comforting: our actions do matter, and justice isn't arbitrary. God sees what's been done, whether harm we've caused or harm we've suffered. Nothing escapes His attention, even when it takes time for consequences to unfold.
