Revelation 17:7
“The angel said to me, “Why do you wonder? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.”
What does Revelation 17:7 mean?
John has just seen a bewildering vision, and the angel recognizes his confusion and offers to explain what it means. The "woman" and "beast" are symbolic representations of spiritual and political powers at work in the world, and the angel is essentially saying, "Don't be overwhelmed by this strange imagery, there's a coherent meaning behind it." This moment reminds us that when we encounter difficult or confusing passages in Scripture, we're invited to seek understanding rather than give up, and that God cares about helping us grasp what He wants us to know. The angel's reassurance is also a comfort: we don't have to figure everything out alone, and mysteries can be unveiled with patient seeking.
