What does Revelation 1:8 mean?
God is declaring that he exists outside of time itself, holding both the beginning and the end in his hands. Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, a poetic way of saying there is nothing before him and nothing beyond him. The phrase "who is and who was and who is to come" emphasizes that God isn't distant or removed from history, but actively present in every moment, whether past, present, or future. This is meant to be profoundly comforting: whatever season you're in right now, God is already there, he has always been there, and he will be there still.
