What does Revelation 1:5 mean?

Jesus is described here as completely trustworthy, having lived and died and risen again, standing above all earthly powers. The image of washing away sins through his blood reflects the ancient practice of sacrificial cleansing, reminding us that his death was meant to restore our relationship with God and free us from shame and guilt. What makes this especially moving is the emphasis that he does this because he loves us, not out of obligation or distant duty. This love isn't abstract, it's personal and active, extended toward you specifically in whatever struggles or regrets you carry.
