Psalms 99:5
“Exalt Yahweh our God. Worship at his footstool. He is Holy!”
What does Psalms 99:5 mean?
The psalmist is inviting us to honor God with our whole hearts and to approach him with reverence, even in his presence. The "footstool" is a poetic way of describing God's earthly dwelling place, the temple, where his people came to worship and draw near to him. When we exalt God and worship him, we're acknowledging that he is set apart and holy, completely worthy of our devotion. This invitation isn't about distant formality, though, it's a call to come close to something transcendent and life-changing.
