What does Psalms 92:6 mean?
This verse comes from a psalm celebrating God's steadfast love and justice. The psalmist has just described how wonderfully God's works endure, how his thoughts run deep, and how his enemies will be scattered. When he says a senseless person "doesn't know" and a fool "doesn't understand this," he's pointing out that some people are simply unable or unwilling to grasp that God's character is reliable and his justice real. The beauty here is that the psalmist isn't being mean-spirited. He's acknowledging a spiritual reality: that without openness to God's perspective, we can miss what's plainly evident about how the world works. We might see God's generosity everywhere and still fixate on what we lack. We might watch someone reap what they sowed and still believe the universe is random. The psalmist invites us to be people who actually see and understand, not because we're smarter, but because we're willing to pay attention to what God is doing.
