Psalms 89:35
“Once I have sworn by my holiness, I will not lie to David.”
What does Psalms 89:35 mean?
God is making an unbreakable promise here, swearing by his own holy nature that he will keep his word to David. When someone swears by what is most sacred to them, they're putting their entire reputation and character on the line, and God's holiness is the most sacred thing that exists. This means God is essentially saying, "I cannot and will not break this promise, because to do so would contradict everything I am."
