Psalms 88:18

What does Psalms 88:18 mean?
The psalmist here is expressing the crushing loneliness that comes with suffering. When we're in deep pain, it can feel like everyone we relied on has vanished, leaving us isolated in our darkest moment. Sometimes this reflects actual abandonment, and sometimes it's the distortion that grief and despair create in our minds, making even present relationships feel impossibly distant. This psalm (one of the darkest in the Bible) doesn't offer easy comfort or false reassurance. Instead, it validates what many people going through hard seasons actually experience: the profound aloneness that can accompany suffering, even when others try to help.
