Psalms 87:4
“I will record Rahab and Babylon among those who acknowledge me. Behold, Philistia, Tyre, and also Ethiopia: “This one was born there.””
What does Psalms 87:4 mean?
God is describing the nations he will count as his own people, and it's a stunning promise of radical inclusion. Rahab was Egypt (sometimes representing all of God's enemies), Babylon was the great empire that conquered Israel, and Philistia and Tyre were long-standing rivals. Yet the psalmist declares that when these nations turn toward God, they'll be recorded in his registry like native-born citizens of his kingdom, as if they were born in Zion itself. This speaks directly to anyone who feels like an outsider or fears their past makes them permanently unwelcome. The passage shows that God's family isn't determined by bloodline or national loyalty or a clean record, but by choosing to acknowledge him. No matter where you come from or what you've been part of, turning toward God means you belong.
