What does Psalms 86:9 mean?

The psalmist is painting a vision of God's ultimate recognition across the whole world, when every nation will bow and acknowledge his greatness. This isn't describing something that's already happened, but rather a confident hope about God's future reign, when his power and character will be so undeniably real that people everywhere will give him honor. It reflects the deep longing found throughout Scripture that one day all creation will recognize God's worth, and the joy that comes from imagining a world finally united in worship rather than division and conflict.
