What does Psalms 85:1 mean?

The psalm opens with gratitude for God's past kindness toward Israel. The speaker remembers a time when the nation faced hardship and then experienced restoration, renewal of hope, and return of blessing. By recalling these mercies, the writer is essentially saying, "You've done this for us before, and we're counting on your faithfulness again." This is a prayer rooted in history but aimed at the present moment. When we're struggling, remembering how God has helped us through hard times before can strengthen our confidence that He hasn't abandoned us now.
