Psalms 80:18
“So we will not turn away from you. Revive us, and we will call on your name.”
What does Psalms 80:18 mean?
When the psalmist says this, he's making a promise to God while also asking for help. He's committing to stay faithful and not abandon his relationship with God, even though things feel difficult and distant. At the same time, he's asking God to breathe new life into their faith—to restore the energy and hope that have been worn down by hardship. There's something beautiful about the order here: the commitment comes first, then the request. It's like saying, "We're staying with you, but we desperately need you to meet us here." The psalmist understands that revival (spiritual renewal and restored closeness with God) comes from God's side, but it also requires our willingness to keep showing up and calling out his name.
