What does Psalms 77:4 mean?

The psalmist is describing the kind of distress that keeps you awake at night, unable to even find words for what you're feeling. This isn't peaceful insomnia, but the restless, anxious kind where your mind won't quiet down and your emotions are too overwhelming to put into sentences. The image of held-open eyelids captures that helpless feeling of being trapped in worry when you desperately need rest and can't find it. What makes this honest is that the writer admits being speechless. Sometimes our deepest hurts can't be neatly packaged into prayers or explanations, and that's okay. This verse gives permission to bring those raw, inarticulate moments to God without needing to have it all figured out or put together.
