What does Psalms 75:6 mean?

Promotion and honor don't come from any direction on the compass, meaning they don't arise from human effort, status, or geography. The psalmist is saying that true lifting up, vindication, or advancement isn't something we secure through our own striving or by being in the right place at the right time. The next verse completes the thought by revealing that God alone is the judge who exalts or humbles people according to his purposes. If you're working hard toward something and wondering if you're doing enough, or if you're waiting for the world to finally recognize your worth, this reminds us that the recognition that truly matters comes from a source beyond human systems and schemes.
