What does Psalms 72:11 mean?

This psalm celebrates a king who will reign with such justice and compassion that all other rulers will recognize his authority and all peoples will willingly submit to his rule. The writer is describing an idealized vision of peace and good governance, where power flows not from military conquest but from the respect and gratitude that comes from genuine care for the weak and poor (as described in the verses just before this one). For Christians, this psalm has long been understood as pointing toward Christ's ultimate kingdom, where every ruler and nation will finally acknowledge his righteous authority, though people of all backgrounds can appreciate the vision of a leader whose power rests on justice rather than force.
