What does Psalms 71:5 mean?

The psalmist is describing a lifetime relationship with God that goes back to childhood, when he first learned to trust. Rather than viewing faith as something he picked up later or clung to only in crisis, he's saying his confidence in God has been the steady ground beneath his feet since he was young. When he calls God his "hope," he means not just wishful thinking, but the actual anchor that holds him steady through all the changes and uncertainties of life. This is the kind of deep trust that develops over time, through small acts of faithfulness and God's consistent care.
