Psalms 69:9
“For the zeal of your house consumes me. The reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.”
What does Psalms 69:9 mean?
The psalmist is describing what happens when you care deeply about God's honor and purposes. That consuming passion for God's house (his temple, his kingdom, his name) becomes so central to your identity that insults directed at God actually wound you personally, as if they were aimed at you instead. This captures something real about faith: when you love God genuinely, you can't remain neutral about disrespect toward him. The reproaches fall on you because you've made his cause your own. It's the cry of someone whose heart beats with God's heart, even when that alignment brings them pain and rejection from others.
