What does Psalms 64:2 mean?

The psalmist here is asking God for protection from people who are scheming against him, both in secret and openly. He's describing both the whispered plots behind closed doors and the aggressive crowds who openly oppose him, as if they're all part of one coordinated threat. This captures something true about persecution and hardship: sometimes the danger comes from hidden enemies, and sometimes from those bold enough to act in the open. When you feel overwhelmed by opposition or wrongdoing around you, this prayer reminds us that God is a refuge who can shelter us from both kinds of threats, and that bringing our fear to him honestly is what faith looks like.
