Psalms 61:3
“For you have been a refuge for me, a strong tower from the enemy.”
What does Psalms 61:3 mean?
The psalmist is describing God as both a safe hiding place and a fortress, using two images that would have meant a lot to someone in ancient times. A refuge was where you could run when danger was chasing you, and a strong tower was built to withstand attacks. What makes this verse so comforting is that it's speaking from experience, not just theory—the writer is looking back at times when they felt threatened or afraid and recognizing that God had already protected them. If you're walking through something scary or uncertain right now, this verse invites you to remember your own experiences of being held safe, or to begin trusting that you can be.
