Psalms 59:7
“Behold, they spew with their mouth. Swords are in their lips, “For”, they say, “who hears us?””
What does Psalms 59:7 mean?
When people speak carelessly or cruelly, they often assume no one who matters is listening, so they let their words become weapons. This psalmist describes enemies whose mouths pour out harm as easily as if swords were coming from their lips, and they do it with a kind of reckless confidence, thinking themselves unaccountable. The question "who hears us?" captures that false sense of privacy or immunity, as though harmful words don't matter if the right people aren't around. It's a deeply human struggle, one many of us face in our own hearts: the temptation to speak in ways we wouldn't if we truly remembered that God sees and hears everything we say.
