Psalms 55:18
“He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, although there are many who oppose me.”
What does Psalms 55:18 mean?
The writer of this psalm is declaring that even though enemies surround him and conflict presses in, God has already brought him through to a place of inner peace and freedom. The word "redeemed" here means God has rescued him, bought him back from danger, as if reclaiming something precious that was being held captive. What's striking is that the psalmist acknowledges his opponents are still there, still real, still numerous, yet he speaks of being at peace anyway, not because the battle ended but because God has secured his soul's safety. This is an honest prayer from someone who knows struggles don't always disappear, but who has experienced deep peace in the middle of them.
