What does Psalms 55:14 mean?

The writer of this psalm is remembering a time of deep friendship and shared worship, when life felt full of genuine connection. These are the memories that make betrayal so painful, which is the real subject of Psalm 55 (the writer has just been hurt by someone they trusted). What makes this verse so moving is that it doesn't gloss over the good parts of that friendship, even though that friendship is now broken. Sometimes the hardest part of losing someone isn't that the relationship was bad, but that it was real and meaningful, which makes the loss cut deeper.
