Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and don’t call on God?

What does Psalms 53:4 mean?

The psalmist is expressing frustration at how those who do wrong seem completely blind to what they're doing. When he says these people "eat up my people as they eat bread," he's describing how casually and thoughtlessly they harm others, treating cruelty like a normal part of daily life. What strikes him most is that they don't even call on God, suggesting they've lost all sense of accountability or awareness that a higher power witnesses their actions. It's a raw cry of bewilderment: how can someone hurt others so routinely and easily without any sense that God is watching or that they should be ashamed?
