What does Psalms 5:1 mean?

The psalmist opens with a direct appeal, asking God to actually listen to what's being said. "Give ear" isn't just polite phrasing, it's an urgent request for God's full attention, like someone who needs to be truly heard rather than dismissed. This reflects a deep human need, especially in difficult moments, to know that our words and the struggles behind them matter to someone who has real power to help. The second line clarifies that this isn't casual chatter, but something deeper, born from real thought and wrestling with what's happening in the person's life, and the psalmist trusts that God cares about that interior work too.
