Psalms 49:20

What does Psalms 49:20 mean?
When we have money or possessions but no wisdom about what truly matters, we're building our lives on something that won't last. The psalmist is saying that wealth alone doesn't elevate us or protect us, because material things eventually disappear, and so do we without deeper understanding of what's real and lasting. This isn't meant as a judgment against people who have resources. Rather, it's an invitation to think about what we're actually living for. Understanding here means knowing what brings genuine meaning, how to treat others well, and where real security comes from. Without that awareness, we might spend our whole lives chasing things that can't actually satisfy us or save us when it matters most.
