What does Psalms 39:10 mean?

The writer of this psalm is in deep pain, physical or emotional, and feels the weight of God's discipline falling heavily on him. He's asking God to lift this burden, acknowledging that whatever is happening comes from God's hand, but pleading for relief from something that feels unbearable. There's honesty here: he's not pretending he's fine or hiding his struggle, but laying it plainly before God. The psalm gives voice to those moments when we feel worn down and need to ask God, even in confusion, whether this season of hardship might ease.
