Psalms 32:9
“Don’t be like the horse, or like the mule, which have no understanding, who are controlled by bit and bridle, or else they will not come near to you.”
What does Psalms 32:9 mean?
David is warning against being stubborn and unresponsive to God's guidance. A horse or mule won't obey unless forced by external tools, but you have something better: a mind and heart that can actually understand. When we resist God's direction out of sheer willfulness, we're choosing to be less wise than an animal, forcing God to work much harder to get our attention through painful consequences instead of gentle instruction. The invitation here is to listen and respond willingly, so you can draw close to God rather than keep Him at a distance through your own resistance.
