Psalms 20:4
“May He grant you your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your counsel.”
What does Psalms 20:4 mean?
This prayer asks God to give us both what we deeply want and the wisdom to pursue it well. The first part, about granting our heart's desire, might sound like a blank check for whatever we wish for, but in the context of the psalm, it assumes we're already seeking God's direction. The second part, fulfilling our counsel, suggests that God helps us think clearly and make sound decisions when we bring our plans to him. There's something beautiful here about the connection between desire and wisdom. Rather than treating them as opposites, the psalmist is asking God to align them so that what we want and what we wisely plan actually work together. It's an invitation to bring the whole of ourselves to God, not just the serious, duty-bound parts.
