What does Psalms 2:6 mean?
God speaks here with absolute confidence about His chosen ruler, placed firmly on Mount Zion in Jerusalem, the spiritual center of His kingdom. This psalm declares that despite any human resistance or earthly power struggles, God's authority is not up for debate—His anointed King will reign according to His purposes. For the earliest Jewish readers, this pointed to their earthly kings, particularly the ideal of a perfect king to come. Many Christians understand this verse as ultimately pointing to Jesus, God's eternal King whose reign no human opposition can overthrow, no matter how the world resists it.
