What does Psalms 18:17 mean?

The psalmist is describing a moment when he was genuinely outmatched, facing enemies stronger and more numerous than himself. Rather than pretending he could have won through his own strength or courage, he's honest about his vulnerability and gives credit for his rescue to God alone. When life overwhelms us or we find ourselves in situations where our own resources simply aren't enough, this verse reminds us that acknowledging our limits isn't weakness, it's often the place where we discover God's strength most clearly. The relief in these words suggests someone who has experienced real deliverance and wants to mark it, to remember it, and to testify that he didn't make it through by himself.
