Psalms 17:12

He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey, as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

What does Psalms 17:12 mean?

David is describing his enemies as predators stalking him, hungry and dangerous. He's not being poetic just for effect—he's naming the reality of how threatened he feels, with enemies circling and waiting for their moment to strike. When we read this alongside the rest of Psalm 17, we see David bringing this raw fear directly to God, refusing to minimize what he's facing or pretend it doesn't matter. That honesty itself becomes a kind of prayer, because he's not keeping his terror bottled up but laying it bare before the one he trusts.
