What does Psalms 148:7 mean?

The psalmist is inviting literally everything on earth and in the oceans to join in praising God, not just people or even just land animals. By calling out the "great sea creatures" and the depths of the ocean, the writer reminds us that God's creation is far vaster than what we can see or control, and all of it matters to him. There's something humbling and freeing in this image: you're invited to praise as part of an enormous chorus that includes whales, creatures in the deepest trenches, and forces of nature beyond our comprehension. If all of creation is called to worship, it suggests that praise isn't just about having the right words or perfect faith, but simply about recognizing that everything we are and everything that exists comes from God.
