What does Psalms 140:5 mean?
When people are set against us, they can lay traps in subtle ways, working behind the scenes to undermine or harm us. The psalmist here describes enemies who use deception and hidden schemes, spreading nets and snares like hunters trying to catch prey, creating dangers that aren't always visible on the surface. This captures what it feels like to navigate a world where some people wish us harm, especially when that harm is concealed. The psalm doesn't shy away from naming the reality that life sometimes includes genuine opposition and real threats to our wellbeing.
