What does Psalms 132:12 mean?
God is making a conditional promise to David through this psalm, saying that his descendants will keep the kingship not because of David's own faithfulness alone, but because of what the next generation chooses to do. The "covenant" and "testimony" refer to God's laws and instructions, the way of life God wants His people to follow. What makes this promise both hopeful and honest is that it doesn't guarantee automatic blessing through family lines. Instead, it says something more challenging and real: faithfulness has to be renewed in each generation.
